The River Falls Public Montessori Elementary (RFPME) governance board exists to uphold the charter school contract that allows RFPME to operate as a Montessori school within a public school district.
RFPME was first introduced to River Falls to benefit the community by increasing the diversity of public elementary school offerings within the district - this benefit has been (and continues to be) realized for families with children in RFPME. However, Montessori and State standards do not always align and RFPME could be pulled away from its intended Montessori principles, if conscious effort is not made to protect it. This in mind, the River Falls school district and RFPME worked collaboratively to develop the charter contract, protecting RFPME's right to Montessori education as well as the school district's need to meet State standards. The governance board upholds this contract, ensuring continued collaboration between RFPME and the River Falls School District.
Members of the RFPME governance board meet once a month and are representative of RFPME staff, parents, community members and the school district's board of directors. Regular discussion includes challenges in maintaining high fidelity Montessori, and how to best balance RFPME's Montessori interests with the needs of the school district.
