The Montessori Method recognizes children have both the natural desire as well as capacity to learn. When provided the materials and support to explore their innate curiosity and drive, children thrive. The curriculum at RFPME fosters the collaborative skills children need in today’s increasingly global world, equipping and empowering them to create a true sense of responsibility for themselves and others, develop respect for humanity and all of its diversity, and make positive decisions to help make a better world.
Experienced Guides:
Montessori teachers are often referred to as Guides. Guides at RFPME hold their Wisconsin Teaching License and are then further trained through a comprehensive training program that is accredited by Montessori Council for Teacher Education (MACTE). Guides are trained to meet each individual child where they are in their development and design a path forward through meaningful, engaging lessons and experiences that trigger a child’s inner drive to learn.
Prepared Learning Environments:
Montessori classrooms are specifically designed for the age group they serve. Classes host a three year age range to ensure all learners are able to learn at their own pace, learn from their peers, and grow as a leader. Classrooms are simple, beautiful, and ordered to create a calm, engaging, inviting learning space.
Hands On Materials:
Scientifically designed, hands on materials, often made from natural materials such as wood give children multisensory learning experiences at every age. This concrete introduction then leads to the abstraction and application of concepts as children grow.
Freedoms with Responsibility:
Montessori students learn through having freedoms within their classroom. They develop a profound respect towards learning through observing peers, collaborating, questioning, exploring, and discovering. Responsibility is naturally linked to freedom and creates true self-discipline and awareness of others.
Grace and Courtesy:
Montessori Education fosters the development of the whole child. Academic learning and progress is essential for growth, however Montessori believes that nurturing the social and emotional development of children provides a solid foundation for academics. Conflict resolution and peace education contribute to calm, respectful learning environments to create space for learning to flourish.
Cosmic Education in Elementary:
Cosmic Education is a cornerstone of Montessori philosophy in the elementary years. It tells the story of the interconnectedness of all things, using holistic and purposeful education to encompass the development of the whole person within the context of the universe. It introduces the idea that humanity might have a “cosmic task,” to better the world for future generations. Dr. Maria Montessori viewed the world as a purposeful place; war, poverty, and injustice are deviations from that purpose. She believed that Cosmic Education was a way to restore peace, harmony, and order. Global awareness, peaceful communication, and ethical cooperation are integral to resolving global issues in the twenty-first century. By providing children with a Cosmic Education, Montessori education empowers students with the knowledge to transform the world.
