Welcome to Greenwood Elementary! I'm Kate Skappel, and I have been serving as principal here at Greenwood since July of 2023. My hopes for the students, staff and families of Greenwood is that everyone feels like they belong at Greenwood as soon as they walk in the door and that all students reach their maximum potential. Prior to my time at Greenwood I taught preschool, first grade and third grade in South Washington County School in Minnesota. I spent the previous 10 years working in various schools in the West St. Paul School District as a technology integrationist and curriculum coordinator as well as serving in a principal capacity on numerous occasions including summer school programming.

I live in Inver Grove Heights, MN with my husband, two daughters and son. We enjoy spending time as a family attending Twins and Saints baseball games, hanging out with our neighbors and traveling to Winona to spend time with our oldest who is attending Winona State University.

I grew up in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, where I played softball, volleyball, and dance team in high school. I graduated from Winona State University with a Bachelor's degree in elementary education (PreK-Grade 6) and later earned my Master's degree in Teaching and Learning from Saint Mary's University of MN.  I also attended Saint Mary's University to complete my K-12 Administration (Principal) Certification.
